Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use Content Marketer for influencer outreach and content promotion. For those of you who requested early access you will be receiving an email from me shortly with instructions on how to get started.
Step 1 – Find a URL to Scan
In this example I am looking for top content marketers to help spread the word about Content Marketer. I started with a quick Google search and found two potential URLs to scan.
Another way to use Content Marketer is for promotion of your latest blog post. If you go that route you can skip step 1.
Step 2 – Enter a URL or Upload a CSV
Copy and paste the URL you found or your latest blog post.
You can also upload a CSV. I used BuzzSumo to find influencers.
Then upload it to Content Marketer and match a few fields (we’ve limited it to 200 contacts for now).
Step 3 – Wait (could take a few minutes to scan a URL)
Sit back while Content Marketer scans the URL and finds the associated emails and twitter usernames.
Step 4 – Clean up your List
Take a minute or two to skim through the list and remove people you don’t want to contact, duplicate email addresses and/or information you think is inaccurate. This step is really important as you don’t want to spam people.
Once you’ve cleaned up the list can start the outreach. The fun part Hit “Next Step” and you’re ready to get started
Step 5 – Outreach: Email & Tweets/DM
During the outreach process you can choose to write an email or choose one from our hundreds of templates.
I recommend choosing one of my personal templates as I’ve tested them 1000’s of times.
You’ll need to fill in the details that are specific to the blog post or content you are promoting.
You can also do outreach via Twitter by sending tweets or DMs.
Finally, send a test email and you’re ready to send.
You’ll start to see results within minutes. I sent 6 emails & 9 tweets to the people linked to in this article and within 4 minutes got 25 shares & 350 visitors.
Here’s what results look like a few days later:
114 Shares, 4 Comments and 2745 visitors
A few tips to get the better results during your outreach:
- Keep your email short and to the point
- Start with a compliment (the more specific the better) or offer something
- Keep your ask easy, your ask you should take no more than a few minutes of their time
P.S. Don’t forget to rate your results & provide feedback
