How to Use

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use Content Marketer for influencer outreach and content promotion. For those of you who requested early access you will be receiving an email from me shortly with instructions on how to get started.

Step 1 – Find a URL to Scan

In this example I am looking for top content marketers to help spread the word about Content Marketer. I started with a quick Google search and found two potential URLs to scan.

Step 1 - Find Blog Posts to Scan

Another way to use Content Marketer is for promotion of your latest blog post. If you go that route you can skip step 1.

Step 2 – Enter a URL or Upload a CSV

Step 2 - Enter URL - CSV - Manual

Copy and paste the URL you found or your latest blog post.

Step 2 - Scan URL

You can also upload a CSV. I used BuzzSumo to find influencers.

CSV - Search Buzzsumo

Then upload it to Content Marketer and match a few fields (we’ve limited it to 200 contacts for now).

Step 2 - CSV

Step 3 – Wait (could take a few minutes to scan a URL)

Step 3a

Sit back while Content Marketer scans the URL and finds the associated emails and twitter usernames.

Step 3b

Step 4 – Clean up your List

Take a minute or two to skim through the list and remove people you don’t want to contact, duplicate email addresses and/or information you think is inaccurate. This step is really important as you don’t want to spam people.

Step 4 - Clean up

Once you’ve cleaned up the list can start the outreach. The fun part :) Hit “Next Step” and you’re ready to get started

Step 5 – Outreach: Email & Tweets/DM

During the outreach process you can choose to write an email or choose one from our hundreds of templates.

Step 5 - Email

I recommend choosing one of my personal templates as I’ve tested them 1000’s of times.

Step 6 - Select a template

You’ll need to fill in the details that are specific to the blog post or content you are promoting.
Step 6a - Fill out the details of template

You can also do outreach via Twitter by sending tweets or DMs.

Step 5 - Tweet

Finally, send a test email and you’re ready to send.

Step 7 - Test and Send

You’ll start to see results within minutes. I sent 6 emails & 9 tweets to the people linked to in this article and within 4 minutes got 25 shares & 350 visitors.

Here’s what results look like a few days later:

results-few days later

114 Shares, 4 Comments and 2745 visitors

A few tips to get the better results during your outreach:

  • Keep your email short and to the point
  • Start with a compliment (the more specific the better) or offer something
  • Keep your ask easy, your ask you should take no more than a few minutes of their time

P.S. Don’t forget to rate your results & provide feedback

Step 6 - PS Provide Feedback

Sujan, thank you for the invitation to use your new tool for content marketers.

This seems so simple. I’m so excited to show this tool to my team. Thanks Sujan!

This looks incredible Sujan! Can’t wait to try it out in beta, I’ve been doing this manually forever and your templates look incredible, such a high response rate.

Justin, Just emailed you early access details. Hope it saves you a ton of time :)

Tim Wu

Awesome tool Sujan. I’ve been pondering ways to codify or build this into a process as I do my best to give link backs and referral sources to the people I quote/refer to. No need now!

Mark Espanol

This looks great thanks again.

See you in Austin, soon!

This looks like an excellent tool, hopefully it’ll make an otherwise really tedious task very easy!
Thanks for the early access. We’re looking forward to trying it out.

Thanks for the early access Sujan! It looks like one hell of a product. So far so good. Let me explore it a bit more and then I’ll let you know my review.

Is there a way to add people to a project list once you’ve reviewed it but not started outreach?

Sujan Patel

At the moment It’s not possible to do that. We have that and merging projects at the top of our list :)

This is THE guide! We’ll definitely start our free trial. I’ve seen a lot about recently but not this guide and suggested template :) Thanks for creating this.
